EDITORIAL POLICY

Enthusiasm is welcome. Receipts are required.

How a place gets onto the page.

SEEN selects places for cultural significance, local character, useful visitor experiences and the connections they make across food, art, architecture, music, history and community. Famous institutions and small independent spaces can both belong. A listing is an editorial choice, not a promise that everyone will love the same thing.

Research before adjectives.

Research uses public information, including official venue pages, museum collections, menus, event calendars, public agencies and relevant local reporting. Sources can disagree or go stale. Personal visits should be identified when they are part of a recommendation; researched coverage should never be dressed up as firsthand experience. We distinguish an announced project from an open destination.

Dates have an expiration problem.

Hours, menus, ticket prices, access rules and event dates can change. Updates happen as information is checked and corrections arrive; there is no claim that every page is monitored daily. Dated listings should include the year and a direct source. Check the operator’s current information before setting out, especially for a ticketed event or a long journey.

Independence, without the mystery.

Editorial inclusion cannot be bought. Businesses may suggest themselves, but a suggestion does not guarantee coverage or a favorable description. Any future sponsored material, affiliate arrangement, complimentary visit or other relevant relationship must be disclosed clearly where it appears. Sponsorship should never masquerade as an independent recommendation.

Corrections are part of publishing.

Send the page URL, the exact detail that needs attention and a supporting source if you have one. I review the evidence and correct verified errors. Substantial corrections should explain what changed. Different tastes are welcome; factual corrections are especially useful. Please do not assume silence means a correction has been accepted.

Suggest a place, not a sales deck.

Tell me the name, neighborhood, official website, what happens there and why it matters locally. Include current access information and any relevant dates. Businesses, artists, organizations and readers are welcome to write. A specific explanation is much more useful than “must-see hidden gem,” a phrase currently wanted for questioning.

Art and transparency.

SEEN uses original visual storytelling, collage and illustration. An artistic interpretation is not documentary evidence of a current interior, installation or street condition. Adapted source imagery needs appropriate credit and licensing. AI-assisted artwork is identified where used: the collage illustrations across SEEN are made with AI image tools and art-directed by me, and every page footer says so. Visual excitement and factual accuracy have different jobs; both matter.

Corrections, inclusion suggestions and editorial questions go to me@halsteadk.com. Include “SEEN” and the city or page in the subject so your note can escape the general tab population.
