ABOUT KEVIN

Yes, a human is responsible for all these tabs.

Hello. I’m Kevin.

I’m Kevin Halstead, the founder, editor, researcher, designer and curator behind SEEN. That is a lot of job titles for one person. The meetings are short. The browser situation is less encouraging.

Design is how I pay attention.

My background is graphic design and visual storytelling. I care about what a page feels like, what an image tells you and whether the information underneath it earns your time. SEEN brings that way of looking to cities: buildings, food, neighborhoods, culture and the small details that make a place unmistakably itself.

The building is never just a building.

Architecture leads to local history. Local history leads to a neighborhood. A neighborhood leads to a food stop. The food stop somehow leads to three more open tabs. This is the basic research engine. It has not demonstrated any interest in becoming more efficient.

Curiosity needs receipts.

I want the exuberance of a cultural magazine and the usefulness of a field guide. That means researching places, checking sources, connecting subjects and being honest about what still needs verification. A beautiful collage does not excuse a wrong address. An enthusiastic sentence is not proof of a personal visit.

Why SEEN looks like SEEN.

The art, color, icons and editorial detours are part of the storytelling. Cities have texture. They have odd corners and contradictory moods. I want these pages to leave room for that, while still helping you work out where to go and why. Personality and useful information should be able to sit at the same table.

You can interrupt the research spiral.

Found a mistake? Know a place that deserves attention? Have a better explanation of your neighborhood? Send it along. SEEN is made by one human, and cities are made by many. The best version of this thing listens.
